Moreno Vinceković

Moreno Vinceković was born in Varaždin in 1973. He completed the Varaždin Music School, majoring in guitar, as the youngest student of his generation in 1989. He graduated from Varaždin Gymnasium in 1990, and in 1995 obtained his degree from the Zagreb Academy of Music in the class of Professor Istvan Römer, as one of the youngest and most successful students of his generation. During his studies, he received numerous awards and recognitions, including the First Prize at the Competition of Music Students of the Republic of Croatia, the First Prize at the Competition of Music Students of the former SFR Yugoslavia in Sarajevo (guitar category), and the Rector’s Award of the University of Zagreb.

He has been teaching guitar and chamber music at the Varaždin Music School since 1988, becoming the youngest teacher in the school’s 195-year history. He initiated the establishment of the secondary-level guitar program in Varaždin and became its first professor. Today, he works as a guitar and chamber music teacher and serves as the Head of the Department of Guitar, Harp, and Tambura. In 2017, by decision of the national Education and Teacher Training Agency, he was granted the title of “professor mentor,” and in 2022, the title of “professor advisor” in permanent status. Since the 2018/2019 academic year, he has been appointed Head of the Inter-County Expert Council for Guitar Teachers, and since 2023, also Head of the Inter-County Expert Council for Harp Teachers. For three consecutive school years (2020–2023), he received recognition from the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports as one of the most successful teachers in the Croatian education system.

His students have so far won more than 300 high prizes at regional, national, and international competitions, performed at the Varaždin Baroque Evenings and as soloists with the Varaždin Chamber Orchestra, and participated in numerous national and international projects. Two of his students were recipients of the annual Rotary Award for Excellence in 2015 and 2016. Fourteen of his students have successfully enrolled in guitar studies at 11 music academies across Europe — in Croatia, North Macedonia, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and England.

For many years, he has actively contributed to the development of Croatian guitar pedagogy. In 1998, together with several distinguished guitar pedagogues and artists, he co-founded the Croatian Association of Guitar Pedagogues (HUGIP), which today has more than 200 members. He served as the Association’s President from 2002 to 2010. He is a frequent lecturer at professional conferences, continuously advancing his professional knowledge, and has organized a large number of seminars and concerts for both teachers and students, featuring some of the world’s most prominent guitar artists and educators.

He serves as a jury member in the categories of guitar and chamber music at regional and national competitions organized by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports, the Education and Teacher Training Agency, and the Croatian Society of Music and Dance Pedagogues. He is also a regular jury member at international guitar competitions. From 2005 to 2013, he was a member of the Presidency of the Croatian Society of Music and Dance Pedagogues.

From 1998 to 2000, he served as President of the School Board of the Varaždin Music School, and from July 2000 to April 2013, he was the school’s Principal, becoming the youngest principal of a secondary-level institution in the Republic of Croatia.
